Purple Rain in July

Out of the blue I thought of Purple Rain as I was sitting in my cubicle at work. I hadn't thought of that movie in years and I still remembered the first time I saw it. Fourth grade. My mother chaperoned a VHS viewing in the living room and made me close my eyes at the 'sexy' parts. This was at the height of my Prince phase.

I felt the urge to see it again, and not some dopey cable version. Uncut. I picked up a copy from the library and that same night we watched it. Pretty much what I expected-still enjoyed the music, story was a little patchy. I especially enjoyed the scene where The Kid comes home to find his parents arguing. Prince runs into the house and throws himself at his father, attempting to protect his mother from any further beating. The way that Prince's tiny frame is shed off of the back of the other actor, as he cries and delivers little girl punches in the actor's side, is priceless. I love Prince, but that is an awesomely bad moment in film history.
